Who doesn’t love stuffing their face at Christmas with turkey, roast potatoes, cakes, chocolates, oh and plenty of booze? But you don’t have to pile on the pounds during the festive season, there are still ways you can keep active, while having fun.

Get your child a gift that they’ll want to go out and play with on Christmas Day, such as a bike or a scooter, and you can burn off some calories helping them road-test it. 15 minutes chasing around the park will burn off those mince pies

2 Stock up on crackers
Bulk buy crackers and keep your arms super-toned by pulling lots of them at the Christmas dinner table. 5 minutes pulling crackers and you’ll have brilliant biceps

3 Exercise while you cook
While you are stood in front of the oven why not do a few heel raises – rise up onto your toes for five seconds and then lower back down over five seconds (repeat a few times). Or do some squats – stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and bend at your knees as if you are going to sit back in a chair, keeping your heels on the floor and ensuring your knees don’t extend beyond your toes. Pull in your stomach and keep your back straight. 10 minutes of exercise in front of the oven will wipe out that fifth roast potato

4 Wash up the dishes
For every 15 minutes of washing up, you can apparently burn 40 calories – so roll up your sleeves and get scrubbing! 15 minutes of dishwashing and you can justify an extra glass of Baileys

5 Rock around the Christmas tree
Turn your iPod up and get dancing – you can burn about 165 calories in 30 minutes grooving to music. “Rockin’ around the Christmas tree, have a happy holiday, everyone’s dancing merrily, in the new old fashioned way”!  30 minutes of dancing and you’ll have room for another Ferrero Rocher
