Want to get better at running?

Runners that want to improve their race times and decrease injury risk need to think beyond just clocking up miles.

Both strength training and interval training are brilliant ways to strengthen muscles and joints, and build cardiovascular fitness, which can benefit those who take part in long-distance running.

Running improved by strength and interval trainingAs well as personal training sessions, at Fight Fit we offer a range of classes, such as Fight Fit Tone (a strength training class which combines light, weighted fitness bars with high-repetition exercises), Fight Fit Combat (an interval-based martial arts to music workout) and Fight Fit Abs (aimed at strengthening your core) – all extremely beneficial for runners.

But don’t just take our word for it. Hear from three Fight Fitters that have produced excellent results on the road, following hard work and determination.

Helen

“I’ve enjoyed running for a few years and, although I have never been fast I would always take a sense of personal achievement when I finished a 5km or a 10km, a half-marathon or a marathon.
When I had my fourth child I took some time out of running and started doing Fight Fit Combat Fitness, Fight Fit Tone, Fight Fit Abs and Fight Fit PT with Fight Fit Ben. Over several months I started to gradually became stronger, fitter and started to run again.

“I strongly believe that Fight Fit classes have had a hugely positive effect on my overall fitness and wellbeing, with me losing weight, losing inches, body fat, feeling stronger and able to run faster than ever”

Being a busy mum of four I don’t have much spare time so I only really get to run when I run in races or local Parkrun events. Despite my lack of running training I have found the added strength and fitness I have gained since starting Fight Fit classes and PT that have resulted in me running faster than ever and I have ran several personal best times in recent months, including a 15 minute PB at the Liverpool Marathon.

I strongly believe that Fight Fit classes have had a hugely positive effect on my overall fitness and wellbeing, with me losing weight, losing inches, body fat, feeling stronger and able to run faster than ever. I can thoroughly recommend a combination of Fight Fit Combat Fitness,  Fight Fit Tone, Fit Fight Abs and Fight Fit PT to anyone who is looking to become stronger, fitter and healthier. They have worked for me and they could work for you too.”

Annette

“Over the last year I have been using Fight Fit classes as cross training for running, to boost my overall cardio fitness. Strength training is also an essential part of running training, both in improving stamina and speed and also to prevent injury.

“I am confident that I will achieve my overall fitness goal for 2016, to run my first Marathon.”

Fight Fit Abs has formed the centre of my core training, giving me a focused 30 minute session each week and teaching me new exercises to do at home or the gym.  I’m not always able to go to Fight Fit Tone, but the routines I have learnt from the session I have been to, and advice from Ben and Emma, have inspired aspects of my weights training in the gym.

So far, as a result of my training, 2016 has seen me achieve new running personal best times in 5km, 10km and half marathon, and with more training, including running, Fight Fit, Abs and weights training, I am confident that I will achieve my overall fitness goal for 2016, to run my first Marathon.”

Claire

“When I first started running in my early 30s, I could barely go a few yards before feeling puffed out but gradually built up my fitness and took part in 5km and 10km Race for Life events. I then had a running hiatus after two pregnancies before I started Fight Fit Combat Fitness classes and took part in two or three classes a week.

“I believe that the mix of interval training and core strength training has played a very big part in my race results.”

When I dared to start running again, I expected to be back at the beginning after pretty much four years off, but was surprised at how fit I had become through Fight Fit. My breathing was great and I quickly built up running fitness.

I started Fight Fit Abs classes and felt stronger than ever before.

I have taken part in a 10km (running under 55 mins) and my first half marathon (under 2 hours 15 mins on a very hot day) in the past year and believe that the mix of interval training and core strength training has played a very big part in my race results.”
